Assam Bye Election To 9-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency
The Assam Bye-Election for the 9-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency is scheduled to take place on October 6, 2026, with the counting of votes set for October 9, 2026. The parliamentary seat fell vacant after the incumbent Congress MP, Pradyut Bordoloi, resigned from the Lok Sabha ahead of the April 2026 Assam Assembly elections. He subsequently switched allegiances to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and successfully contested the Dispur Assembly seat.

Notification of Assam Bye Election To 9-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency
No. 100/AS-HP/1/2026:- WHEREAS, the seat of Shri Pradyut Bordoloi, in the House of the People elected from 09-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency, in the state of Assam has become vacant on 20th March, 2026, consequent upon his resignation, and
Whereas, a bye-election is to be held for the purpose of filling the vacancy so caused; Now, Therefore, in pursuance of sub-section (1) of Section 149, Section 30 and Section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission of India hereby:
(A) calls upon the said 09-Nagaon Parliamentary Constituency in the State of Assam, to elect, before 11th October, 2026 (Sunday) and in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder, a person for the purpose of filling the said vacancy in the House of the People,
(B) appoints, with respect to the said election:
(a) the 16th September, 2026 (Wednesday), as the last date for making nominations.
(b) the 17th September, 2026 (Thursday), as the date for the Scrutiny of nominations,
(c) the 19th September, 2026 (Saturday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures,
(d) the 6th October, 2026 (Tuesday), as the date on which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken;
(e) the 11th October, 2026 (Sunday), as the date before which the election shall be completed; and;
(C) fixes the hours from 7 A.M. to 5 P.M., as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken on the date specified above for the election.
