Previously, the highest poll-participation in Tamil Nadu was 78.29%. Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. S.S. Presiding Officers updated the polling percentage on ECINET at the close of poll before leaving the polling station as per ECI’s latest instructions resulting in minimal delay in updation of the polling trends. Several new voter-friendly initiatives such as easily identifiable colour photos of candidates on EVM ballot papers, Mobile Deposit Facility (MDF), newly designed Voter Information Slips (VIS) for easy readability and limit of electors upto 1,200 per polling station were ensured in these elections.

Polling stations were also provided with wheelchairs and volunteers to assist PwD voters. Transport facility was also provided to assist PwD voters in reaching their respective polling stations. District-wise and AC wise approximate voter turnout figures are available on the ECINET App.

District Wise Polling Percentage of Tamil Nadu Election

Tamil Nadu has created a record turnout of 82.24% polling, according to the latest status available at 5 pm. The voting will still go on as tokens have been issued. Out of the 38 districts, 30 have registered over 80% of the votes. This has beaten the 2011 record polling created after delimitation, where it was 78% of the votes.

Except for eight districts, the remaining 30 have recorded over 80% of the votes. The western districts of the State have registered more votes than the other parts of the State. Karur has recorded a maximum of 89% of the votes. Chennai has recorded 83.44% of votes in the district out of the 16 constituencies, and 12 have registered over 80% of votes.

Tamil Nadu Election 2026 recorded a powerful 84.6% voter turnout, showing strong public participation across the state. In simple terms, out of every 100 eligible voters, nearly 85 people came out and voted — which is a huge number.

Some districts performed exceptionally well. Karur crossed 92%, meaning almost the entire district participated. Western and central regions like Salem, Namakkal, and Erode also saw very high turnout, mostly above 90%. These areas clearly showed strong voter awareness and engagement.

On the other side, districts like Kanniyakumari (~75%) and parts of South Tamil Nadu had comparatively lower turnout. Still, even these numbers are decent, but they show there is room for improvement in voter participation.

Urban areas like Chennai (~83%) improved compared to past elections, but still slightly lower than rural belts. This pattern is common — rural voters tend to turn out more consistently than city voters.
