Indiramma Illu

Indiramma or Integrated Novel Development In Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas (INDIRAMMA) is a mass housing scheme introduced by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It covers people living in rural areas in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

It started in the year 2006 when Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and aimed to make the state Hut-free.

Jalayagnam

Jalayagnam or Jala Yagnam, (water worship), is a water management program in India. It has been implemented by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, India, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as an election promise to the farmers of the state to bring 8.2 million acres (8.2 million acres) under irrigation in five years.

2 Rupees Rice

The Andhra Pradesh government has re-launched the Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme for below-poverty-line (BPL) families in the State from Wednesday, coinciding with Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day that was celebrated two days ago.

Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy formally inaugurated the scheme at Jadcharla in backward Mahbubnagar district on Wednesday even as his ministerial colleagues, Congress legislators and MPs kick-started the sale of subsidized rice to BPL families through fair price shops across the State.

Legislators of other parties, too, participated in the launch in their respective constituencies. In all, about 42,000 fair price shops are networked to sell the subsidized rice.

Free Electricity For Farmers

On the first day of YSR tenure in 2004, he provided free electricity for farmers, a campaign project.

A health insurance program for rural people living below the poverty line (white card holders), known as Rajiv Arogya Shree, was instituted to pay the entire cost of any necessary surgery up to a maximum of ?2 lakh

Party Background

After the sudden death of the then-incumbent Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy (YSR) in a helicopter crash in September 2009, his son Jagan Mohan Reddy, the incumbent MP from Kadapa, started an Odarpu Yatra (condolence tour) across Andhra Pradesh, to console the families of those who had committed suicide or died of shock after the death of his father. This tour was not supported by the Congress leadership.

Congress President Defying the Congress High Command’s order to call off the tour, Jagan went ahead with the first leg of the “Odarpu Yatra” in the West Godavari and Khammam districts from in April 2010.

Meanwhile, Sakshi TV news channel and Sakshi newspaper, had been continuously criticizing the new Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah and the Congress leadership at New Delhi. In a special programme on Sakshi TV to mark the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Congress party, a voice-over made remarks on Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the “current state of affairs” in the State, which invited anger and protests from the Congress loyalists and increased the gap and friction between Jagan and the Congress loyalists. The channel later deleted those remarks in a re-telecast.[citation needed]

Party Politics

After accusing the Congress of ill-treating him and creating rifts in his family by luring his uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy (younger brother of YSR) with a state ministerial berth in the aftermath of the death of his father, Jagan and his mother Y. S. Vijayamma resigned from the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies respectively and also as members of the Congress in November 2010.

Many Congress leaders loyal to Jagan also quit the Congress and joined the YSR Congress. This resulted in the weakening of the Congress’s strength in both the assembly and the Lok Sabha, necessitating by-elections. In the ensuing by-elections, the party won most of the vacated seats with record-breaking majorities, with many of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (the main opposition) candidates losing their deposits.

The party has a strength of 151 members in the 175-member state assembly and 22 members in the Lok Sabha (out of 25 in AP) as the election results declared on 23 May 2019, simultaneously
